Arsenal have made six changes for Wednesday night's Champions League meeting with Slavia Prague, with William Saliba returning to the side and a call taken on Max Dowman, according to football.london. The Gunners are at the Fortuna Arena for a 20:00 UK kick-off, three days after their 1-0 Premier League win at Liverpool.
Saliba's comeback
Saliba travelled with the squad after his recovery from injury, and football.london reports that Arteta made a significant decision over the defender as part of his six alterations. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the manager gave an upbeat assessment of the recovery, saying the centre-back "played 45 minutes behind closed doors last week and he feels ready to go", adding that his evolution had gone as expected.
Arteta also welcomed the prospect of having more defenders available than he has been used to. Asked about fitting his centre-backs into the team, he said: "So far we haven't had that luxury, I wouldn't call it a problem!" He added that once players are fit and available, he will be able to rest and manage them better through a congested schedule. Arseblog noted the praise that has come Ezri Konsa's way since his arrival and the way he has settled into the side.
Dowman in line for a landmark
Football. The same outlet says Bukayo Saka is the only member of the group unavailable to Arteta, who otherwise has a near-fully fit squad to pick from.
Rotation on the cards
Arseblog suggested there is scope for further rotation, naming Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapie as defenders who will be looking for minutes. It also raised the option of Dowman starting on the right, with Christos Tzolis having played almost the full 90 minutes against Liverpool on his return from injury and Noni Madueke also available, while noting another opportunity for Viktor Gyokeres.
On his midfield options, Arteta said of Mikel Merino and Martin Zubimendi: "They are playing a pivotal role." He added that squad players "need to feel important" and that maintaining that belief will help them win games for the team.
Arsenal are chasing a third win of the league phase, football.london reports, having drawn 2-2 away at Bayern Munich earlier in the campaign. Slavia Prague lost this same fixture a year ago to the date, with Saka and Merino on the scoresheet that day.
