Thomas Tuchel has recalled Ben White to the England squad and used the announcement to call for an end to the booing the Arsenal defender has faced from some supporters, describing him as a "standout player" for his club.

White was included when Tuchel's party for the November international break was confirmed on Friday morning, according to Daily Cannon. England host Croatia on Thursday 12 November and travel to Spain on Sunday 15 November in the Nations League.

Tuchel: 'It should be a closed book'

White was booed by a section of the Wembley crowd in March, when he made his first England appearance in four years. After entering as a substitute, he scored the first goal in a 1-1 tie with Uruguay and later gave away the penalty that allowed the visitors to equalise.

"We were not happy about this," Tuchel said, per Metro. "We could understand the disappointment of the fans with what happened before but I think this is expressed now and this should be a closed book."

The Daily Mail reports Tuchel went on to say that White "deserves positive feedback from the crowd" and "deserves to be able to open a new chapter". Metro adds that the manager wants supporters to get behind him because "he is one of our players".

White had made himself unavailable for selection during Gareth Southgate's time in charge after leaving the 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar. Metro reports it is understood he had been involved in a disagreement with Southgate's assistant, Steve Holland, shortly before his departure.

The reasoning behind the recall

Tuchel pointed to White's club form and to the shape of his current squad. "Every time I watch Arsenal, I see a very strong Ben White in this position," he said, adding that conversations with the defender always leave him feeling "the hunger to come back and the excitement".

The England manager also noted that Trevoh Chalobah is not in camp, which he said leaves Jarell Quansah covering both full-back and centre-back, and "gives Ben the opportunity to impose himself again".

White's recent absences have been injury-related. Daily Cannon notes that the March camp was his only England involvement since 2022, and that he dropped out over the summer and again during the September- and October windows.

Four more Gunners in, Madueke out

Noni Madueke misses out, while Bukayo Saka is absent, with Daily Cannon reporting there is no real expectation he will be back in action before December.

Before the break, Arsenal return to domestic duty, with Hall City visiting the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon, three days after a 2-1 Champions League win at Slavia Prague.
