Viktor Gyokeres faces fresh questions over his Arsenal future after Gabriel Agbonlahor claimed the striker will "100% be sold" before next season, while David Seaman offered a more measured but still puzzled assessment of the forward's output.
Agbonlahor's verdict
While speaking on talkSPORT, in comments reported by the Daily Star, Agbonlahor said about Gyokeres: "Looks like he's like running in slow motion, isn't he?" Looks like he can't run."
The former Aston Villa forward did concede that the 28-year-old is capable of holding the ball up, but insisted he will not be at the club next season. "Yeah, 100%," he said. Agbonlahor also argued that Arsenal would have moved Gyokeres on this season had a deal involving Julian Alvarez been possible, saying the club would have offered the striker plus money, and that Alvarez turned Arsenal down.
The Daily Star described Gyokeres as a "£64m flop" and said he again failed to impress in Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton, despite being credited with an assist for Konsa's opening goal.
Seaman: contrast with Sweden is 'weird'
Seaman, speaking to Betway, took a different tone. The former Arsenal goalkeeper said the gap between Gyokeres' club form and his scoring with Sweden is difficult to explain. "It's weird because as soon as he goes away with Sweden, he scores goals," Seaman said. He went on: "Maybe we don't play to his strengths as much as we should." He added: "You know he can score goals, he's proven it, it's just that he's not been getting the chances."
Seaman also addressed the broader striker debate, describing Kai Havertz as "a really intelligent footballer" while questioning whether he is an out-and-out striker, noting that he likes to drop off.
Arteta contract and title targets
Seaman, speaking with Mikel Arteta now under contract until 2030, predicted two more Premier League titles and a Champions League before that deal ends. He said he was "so glad" the manager had signed, arguing it adds stability and that players benefit from knowing where they stand.
Everton win and Fleetwood next
Arteta's side are back in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Highbury Stadium to face Fleetwood Town in the Carabao Cup.
