Thomas Tuchel has included five Arsenal players in his England squad for the Nations League matches with Croatia and Spain; Ben White is recalled, while Noni Madueke misses out for a second camp running.

White's return was confirmed alongside the inclusions of Ezri Konsa, Myles Lewis-Skelly, Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice, who comes back after withdrawing from the previous squad for load management, according to Arsenal Insider.

White back in the fold

For White, the call-up ends a spell out of the national picture stretching back to March. According to Arseblog News, a knee injury he suffered during Arsenal's 1-0 victory at West Ham in May denied him the opportunity to be included in the World Cup squad.

His two appearances in March were eventful. Arseblog News notes that he scored and conceded a penalty during a substitute outing against Uruguay, when a section of the crowd booed him, before playing an hour against Japan. The same outlet suggests he might well have made the World Cup had he stayed fit, and that his recent Arsenal form has now earned him another opportunity under Tuchel.

Mikel Arteta welcomed the news. "He looked really happy, he's earned it," the Arsenal manager said, as reported by Sky Sports, who described White's recent form as brilliant.

Madueke overlooked

The omission of Madueke is the other half of the story. Since Bukayo Saka is injured, the winger has been a fixture for Arsenal, and Arsenal Insider calls this run arguably his finest in an Arsenal shirt: he has started seven of the last 10 games and registered four goal involvements — three goals and one assist — in his last eight outings, scoring the first goal in Wednesday's 2-1 Champions League victory at Slavia Prague.

Arsenal Insider adds that Madueke recently missed the Fleetwood game with a knock, and that it is not yet clear whether that played any part in the selection.

Arsenal Insider also notes that Morgan Rogers, who has played on the right for England before, and Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha appear to be among the options preferred, with Ngumoha named in the squad by Arseblog News.

Supporters split on the snub

Reaction among Arsenal supporters has been mixed. Arsenal Insider says many supporters used social media to challenge the call, with some contending Madueke had a better claim than one of his Arsenal colleagues, while others saw a benefit in him missing the international break because the club lacks depth in wide positions.

There is also the precedent of the previous break. Left out of the last camp, Madueke stayed with Arsenal and, according to Arsenal Insider, Arteta described him as "the best player" in training before he returned looking sharper.

Rice among the returning group

Rice's recall follows his withdrawal from the October squad, while Konsa, Lewis-Skelly and Eze keep their places in Tuchel's group for the Croatia and Spain matches. Arsenal.com confirmed the five-strong Arsenal contingent in the squad on Friday morning.
