Hertha Berlin boss issues Arsenal Matteo Guendouzi warning with ‘rebel’ verdict

Hertha Berlin coach Pal Dardai has given a verdict on Arsenal loanee Matteo Guendouzi which may concern Mikel Arteta.

The Frenchman is spending the season on loan with the Bundesliga side following a fall from grace last year, which saw him exiled from the squad following a clash with Brighton’s Neal Maupay in June.

Since moving to Germany, Guendouzi has found regular opportunities in Hertha’s ranks, featuring in 17 of 22 Bundesliga matches, but there is still a long way to go in his development, Dardai has warned.

“It’s like puberty for him, he’s kind of a rebel. He has to work and learn like an animal,” he told Bild.

Guendouzi, during the recent 3-0 defeat to RB Leipzig, was introduced as a second-half substitute for Hertha and lost the ball inside three minutes, leading to the second goal in the game.

Having thrown himself to ground, the midfielder would have hoped to have received a free-kick but instead, he was left with red faced and Dardai has seen this occur on a number of occasions in training.

“In training, I always stop these kind of duels because you can’t fall to the ground like this. And, afterwards, he’s mad.”
