Hammarby sporting director delivers verdict on Arsenal’s interest in £20million defender

Hammarby sporting director Jesper Jansson is ‘not surprised’ Odilon Kossounou is attracting interest from Arsenal.

Club Brugge star Kossounou is said to be a target of the Gunners ahead of this summer, while Premier League rivals Wolves and Serie A giants Inter Milan have also been linked.

The 20-year-old defender has been with Brugge since 2019 when he joined from Swedish club Hammarby for a fee estimated to be around £3.4million.

Kossounou has been a regular at Club Brugge this season, racking up 29 appearances across all competitions, and his performances have seen him attract interest from around Europe with a £20million fee mooted.

Arsenal are said to be one of the clubs reportedly monitoring the young defender, but that’s no surprise to the sporting director of Kossounou’s former club Hammarby.

“It is very fun for him and then it is a credit to us in Hammarby,” Jansson told Fotbalskanalen.

“No, I’m not surprised (about the transfer links) because I followed him when he was here. “We have followed him down in Belgium and his progress at Club Brugge.”

He added: “I do not think (£13 million) will be enough.”

The interest in Kossounou is an interesting one for Arsenal, particularly given centre-back William Saliba is due to return from his loan spell at Nice in the summer.
