Arsenal set for £140m transfer windfall if Edu completes squad overhaul

Arsenal are looking to rejuvenate their squad in the summer transfer window and it could result in a number of departures.

The Gunners’ trimmed their ranks in the January transfer window by axing Mesut Ozil, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis Papastathopoulos, while sending a number of players away on loan.

That focus looks set to continue at the end of the season, as the Sun reports that Arsenal are looking to axe as many as nine players.

David Luiz, out of contract at the end of the season, and Sead Kolasinac, on loan at Schalke, are set to leave and the Gunners will receive little in return, with only a minimal fee for the latter.

However, it is the other areas of the squad where money can be raised – with £25m each for Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi on the agenda following their loan spells to Atletico Madrid and Hertha Berlin this season.

That would raise £50m in itself and the other sales that Arsenal are said to be considering will boost that return by almost £100m.

The main money is likely to come from Alexandre Lacazette, who is a key part of Arsenal’s plans this season but has entered the final 18 months of his contract and Arsenal do not want to hand him a lucrative extension.
