Real Madrid may have dropped the biggest hint yet that Martin Odegaard’s move to Arsenal will soon be confirmed.
One of the Gunners’ main transfer priorities this month, in terms of incomings, has been to sign a creative midfielder and there have been links to a number of players across Europe as well as closer to home in the English Championship.
Julian Brandt, Houssem Aouar, Emi Buendia, Isco, and Julian Draxler have been just some of the names tipped to make a move to the Emirates Stadium in the winter window.
However, it has emerged that Odegaard is the chosen one.
The 22-year-old recently became available for a loan move after it had become clear that he would not be getting regular minutes at Real Madrid during the second half of the season.
Since returning from a successful loan spell at Real Sociedad, the Norway international has been limited to just nine appearances across all competitions so far this term.
As a result, a loan move suits all parties.
football.londonunderstands technical director Edu had spoken with Odegaard’s father Hans and agent Bjorn Tore Kvarme, while on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos had also helped convince the Norwegian to pick Arsenal over Real Sociedad.
The Gunners now have just over a week to get the deal over the line.
With that said, Real Madrid have made a decision regarding the 22-year-old ahead of their La Liga clash against Alaves on Saturday night that may hint at the deal being very close to completion.
For the first time this season, when available, Odegaard has not been named in a matchday squad by Zinedine Zidane.
Confirmation of Los Blancos’ travelling party was announced via social media and there was no sign of the playmaker alongside the likes of Isco, Eden Hazard, and Karim Benzema.
