“He’s a great footballer and he’s a really talented footballer. He’s a player that has done a lot for the football club. But at the moment I want to take the team in a different direction.
“If we had more options maybe he was part of some plans. He was part of some plans at the start and he wasn’t anymore at the end.”
Mikel Arteta has hinted at Arsenal’s next transfer mission with less than two weeks until deadline day.
