How much Arsenal will save after ditching Mesut Ozil and his extortionate wages

Mesut Ozil ‘s Arsenal nightmare appears to be nearing its conclusion.

The playmaker’s seven-year stay in north London is all-but over, with reports suggesting a Fenerbahce transfer could be sealed this weekend.

Arsenal and Ozil have reached an agreement which will see his contract terminated with immediate effect so he can leave the Emirates on a free.

With the player’s deal due up at the end of the season, it will mean the Gunners will save a whopping £7m in wages between now and the summer.

This, due to the fact Ozil was earning a mouth-watering £350,000-a-week at Arsenal since signing a new deal back in 2018.

Faced with losing the player, Arsene Wenger handed down the staggering deal to the former Real Madrid man in a bid to keep him happy in north London.

But since then, Ozil has struggled to replicate his early form and has dramatically fallen out of favour at Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta dropped the player altogether at the start of the season, axing him from the first-team squad.

Now, the Spaniard will have a nice boost to his January transfer kitty as Arsenal search for reinforcements.

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil is in the last year on his contract

Arteta all-but confirmed Ozil’s exit earlier this week when pressed on the matter.

“We will discuss it internally, what the best situation is for him in the near future, with the player and the agent and try to find the best solution for everybody,” said Arteta.

“We will decide what is happening in the next few days.

“If that’s the case we will move forward, if not, the player will continue here.

“We know that we have a really important player that is one of the key players in the past seasons for this football club.”
