William Saliba to Nice: Loan move agreed, no permanent transfer, Edu’s plans for teenager

Arsenal defender William Saliba could be set for an exit this month.

Gunners fans have been calling for the French youngster to get more playtime having seen little of him since his move from Saint-Etienne last year.

That is, in part, because the 19-year-old returned on loan to Saint-Etienne initially, but Arsenal fans thought they would see Saliba feature this season following his return.

Making just two appearances for the youngsters in the EFL Trophy and six in the Premier League 2, Saliba hasn’t seen any first-team action this season and with Mikel Arteta’s men finally beginning to kick-on, it doesn’t look likely the defender will feature in any time soon.

Arsenal and Nice agree to Saliba move

Arsenal are said to have agreed a deal with Ligue 1 side OGC Nice over the loan of Saliba.

According to Get French Football, the Gunners and Nice have agreed a deal that will see the youngster spend the rest of the season back in his home country.

The report makes clear there is no option-to-buy, suggesting the £27million signing still has a future at the Emirates Stadium.

It’s claimed Saliba has his medical penned in for this morning (Monday, January 4) and that a deal will be pushed through promptly.

According to L’Equipe, who have described Saliba and Arsenal as a ‘failed marriage’ and that the teenager’s ‘English adventure is turning into a mess’, the only way for the defender to continue at the Emirates Stadium is if there’s a change of manager.
