Arsenal transfer rumours: Wilshere makes Ozil claim, Aouar demand, new deal close

Arsenal could be forced to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window following another poor result in the Premier League.

The Gunners’ disappointing 2-1 defeat by Wolves on Sunday left the club with just one win in their last six Premier League games.

They sit 14th in the league table on 13 points, which is Arsenal’s lowest points tally after their opening 10 matches of any league campaign since they had 12 points at the same stage in the 1981/82 season.

Pressure is mounting on manager Mikel Arteta, but having sacked predecessor Unai Emery just over a year ago, the Arsenal hierarchy are unlikely to pull the trigger again.

However, they may be tempted to use the mid-season transfer window to strengthen the Spaniard’s hand. With that in mind, here is a look at the latest transfer rumours around the club.

‘Ozil truth will come out’

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has opened up over the situation surrounding his old teammate Mesut Ozil.

Ozil has been frozen out of the picture under Arteta, with the German not even in the Gunners’ Premier League or Europa League squads and Wilshere is baffled by what is going on.

“I loved playing with him,” Wilshere told Sky Sports News. “He was a top player. It’s a shame, but what is happening is happening, and no one knows but I’m sure everyone will find out one day.”

Ozil is out of contract at the end of the season and is eyeing the exit in north London, but Wilshere himself is still looking for a place to call home after leaving West Ham in the summer.

“I’m in a position now where I can make a decision based on footballing reasons and pick the team that I think I could fit into,” he added. “I will have a look at the team, the players, the league they’re in and how the manager wants to play.
