According to But Football Club, William Saliba will leave Arsenal in January to re-join AS Saint-Etienne on loan.
The French news outlet also reveal that Mikel Arteta doesn’t even invite the 19-year-old to train with the first-team.
But Football Club add that a deal for Saliba – who earns £40,000-a-week – to rejoin the Ligue 1 outfit almost happened in the summer, but negotiations started too late and ultimately failed.
Since signing for the Gunners in a deal worth £27 million in 2019, the 19-year-old has had a strange time.
He was immediately loaned back to AS Saint-Etienne, only to make just 17 appearances as injuries and COVID-19 affected his season.
Arsenal also didn’t allow him to play in the French Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain, as the loan had technically ended by the date of the rescheduled event as the Evening Standard covered.
Having returned to north London, Saliba then found himself left out of the club’s Europa League squad by Arteta, and has only appeared for the development side so far this season.
The teenager’s treatment has been very unusual, and we imagine that it won’t have done any favours for his development at a tender age.
Perhaps a move…
