Ian Wright’s Aston Villa comments proven to be true after Arsenal defeat

Arsenal’s season suffered a huge blow prior to the November international break following a 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium.

A Bukayo Saka own goal gave the visitors the lead before the break and things got worse for the Gunners in the second period, as boyhood Arsenal fan Ollie Watkins netted twice.

That saw Mikel Arteta’s side come crashing back down to earth following the 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford last week and raises questions about the side.

Villa have already caught the eye this season after a stunning 7-2 victory over defending champions Liverpool prior to the last international break and proved their worth once again.

The performance from Dean Smith’s side led to the re-emergence of some comments from legendary Arsenal striker Ian Wright last month, who was full of praise and stated he’d love to play in the side.

“If I had to choose somebody now, I’d want to play for Aston Villa at this moment, because of Jack Grealish and Ross Barkley, because the work rate that they put in,” he told the Wrighty’s House Podcast.

Wright took to social media to retweet a snapshot of the comments he made, alongside a collection of crying-face emojis.

Both Grealish and Barkley caught the eye in Villa’s memorable win, which leaves Arsenal with plenty of work to be done when they return to action in two weeks.

Arteta’s side face another stern test next time out when they travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United, before their Europa League clash against Molde.
