You said it’s the first time you’ve not played as a team. What do you mean by that?
I don’t feel like we were the team we supposed to be. We performed below our standards, our ability. I didn’t see the spirit for the first time since I’m here that I’ve seen every day in training, every day when we compete. This is totally my fault because it’s why I’m here. I’m responsible for that to make sure the team performs at the highest level every three days and today I haven’t managed to do that and it’s my fault.
Can you look for reasons why?
It’s very important to find the reasons. I cannot say I’ve seen a change or this week they’ve trained a different way. I would be lying if I said that. Obviously there was something there today that they wanted much more than us and they showed it. At the end of the day if you are late in every decision making and every second ball is for us, you don’t show the quality we have with the ball, you cannot defend your box and when you get chances you don’t hit the target – it’s a really complicated way to win football matches.
How frustrating is the inconsistency and lack of creativity?
That’s something obviously we have to improve on. We need to be more ruthless but I don’t want to single out anybody. Today it wasn’t about that. It was about how we went about the job and who we were as a team. What we were transmitting as a team and I didn’t like it from the first whistle, the way we conceded and we got away with the VAR goal. It’s just not good enough.
Aubameyang didn’t have a single shot in target in the game. With his record in the past do you need to put him into positions where he’s more involved?
Yeah but that’s a team function and that’s a collective thing that we have to do more. Certainly in some situations the end product is something that we need to improve. About his position and his movement and where we can find him of course we can talk about if it’s the right or wrong place for him but when things working and he was…
