Arsenal invincible Lauren has claimed Mesut Ozil only has himself to blame for being left out of the club’s Premier League and Europa League squads this season.

The Germany international is now only eligible to play in domestic cup competitions, and recently released a statement claiming he is “no longer allowed to play for Arsenal”.

But Lauren has suggested Mikel Arteta should not be held responsible for Ozil’s decline.

“It is sad to see,” Lauren told Sky Sports. “I don’t believe it has just come from now, I believe it came from a while ago with Emery and now Arteta.

“First of all it starts with the player. I believe that if you have the quality and if you’re a top player and are not involved week in, week out, I believe that is your own fault.

“If you have the quality of a top player and you are 100% committed in the team they will play you.

“They wouldn’t have any other option. If you are doing everything you should do as a top player it is difficult for a manager and the club to say ‘you’re not going to play’ or ‘you’re not going to be involved in the team’.”
