Arsenal player ratings vs Rapid Vienna: Thomas Partey shines and Hector Bellerin assists again

Leno – Made a poor error for the opening goal. Looked shakey against Manchester City at the weekend and appears to be suffering from a lack of competition for the no.1 spot. 5.

Cedric – The stark difference between the Portuguese and Bellerin could be seen when the Spaniard came on and assisted for Aubameyang. An adept crosser of the ball but an underwhelming performance tonight. 5.

David Luiz – Made the back pass to Leno which cost Arsenal their first goal, but showed character to equalise with an excellent header to make it 1-1. An improved performance. 7.

Gabriel – An excellent defensive display from the towering Brazilian. Won 6 out of his 8 duels and looks better with every game he plays. 8.

Kolasinac – Disappointing performance on the left hand side. Unable to link-up with Saka. 5.

Pepe – Provided the assist from a free-kick for David Luiz’s goal. Showed brief flashes of quality and will be hopeful of starting against Leicester on Sunday. 6.

Partey – An excellent full debut for the Ghana midfielder. Progressive with the ball and forward thinking throughout. Received another yellow card for what looked like an innocuous challenge, but his technical quality is there for all to see. 8.

Elneny – Has received a lot of criticism over the years but his through ball to Bellerin was an example of what he can offer. A utility player worth keeping if he continues to put in disciplined and inventive performances like he did tonight. 7.

Saka – Showed flashes of the quality we’ve come to expect from him. One of the first names on the team sheet now and still only 19-years-old. 7.

Nketiah – Played out of position and couldn’t influence the game. The experiment didn’t work. 5.

Lacazette – Captained the side tonight and his goalscoring form has been impressive in the opening three games of the season. However, he was below-par in Vienna and slow to get to the ball. 5.
