Mikel Arteta has said that Thomas Partey looks ready to make his first Arsenal start against Rapid Vienna.
The 27-year-old was a £45m deadline day signing for the Gunners from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid and made his debut as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 Premier League loss at the hands of Manchester City last weekend.
Ahead of kick-off, Arteta explained why the Ghana international was not included in the starting XI.

“Obviously we were tempted but he had a day and a half of training,” he told Sky Sports.
“There was a lot of new things, a lot of establishing himself here, we need to be a little bit patient and respect some timings as well
“We had the previous two games where we played against them and obviously everything that they’ve been doing since the start of the season is an accumulation of a lot of factors, the way our players are feeling as well, and put the best gameplan together.”
With that said, a few days have been removed since the Gunners’ trip to Manchester and Partey has got a few more training sessions under his belt.
In addition, he has travelled to Austria for Thursday evening’s Europa League opener and Arteta has teased a full debut for his big-money summer signing.
“He has reacted really well,” Arteta said in his pre-match press conference. “I think he came on and looked strong, looked confident and he added something positive to the team.
“It was a very short turnaround from him.
“Since he joined he had a day, a day and a half only in training.
“He has done a few more training sessions and he looks ready to start.”
