‘Arteta knows this’ – Arsenal fans send Gunners boss Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang demand

Arsenal fans have urged Mikel Arteta to deploy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in a central attacking role.

The 31-year-old forward has been used on the left of a front three at times by Arteta, most recently in the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday.

Aubameyang hit 29 goals in all competitions for the Gunners last season before pledging his future to the club by signing a new contract over the summer.

He was on target in the Community Shield success against Liverpool and then scored in Arsenal’s opening Premier League fixture against Fulham.

However, he has not found the net in his four outings since then – prompting some to suggest the Gabon international may be more effective in a different position.

A Twitter post from fan blog account LTArsenal read: “Aubameyang at Arsenal in the league since 2018/19:

“Expected goals per game playing from the left – 0.36

“Expected goals per game playing centrally – 0.65

“Don’t be fooled by his actual numbers from the left, xG catches up over time.

“Has to return to CF, cannot stress it enough.

“Please go and watch Aubameyang’s goals from the left.

“Goals against Newcastle, Everton (2nd goal), City (1st goal), Liverpool (shield), Fulham, Palace, Watford, etc,

“The quality of his finishes were incredible, but also not sustainable. He seldom got clear cut chances.”

Here are some of the replies to that post…

@halalmartmy: I agree.

@ijhussain: Hate all these nonsense stats. I go by what I see with my eyes. I trust my eyes and knowledge to say this guy is not good enough “player”. Goals alone is not enough for me maybe some others it is but he’s is going to be 32 in June and losing his biggest asset…..pace.

@RoliTshindane: Arteta insists on having him on the left then laca has to play, he’s the one that brings auba into the game, can’t think of too many times where auba had a good game…
