Latest Arsenal transfer rumours: Soumare decision, Atletico’s Partey claim, Aouar stance

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours for Saturday, October 17.

Arsenal opted against Lille midfielder

Arsenal chose to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid this summer ahead of Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare, according to reports.

Partey completed a deadline day move to the Emirates after the Gunners paid the £45 million buyout clause in the midfielder’s contract at the Wanda Metropolitano.

But The Athletic reports Arsenal’s scouting department had originally submitted extensive reports on Lille star Soumare.

The same report claims the club’s executive committee were then tasked with making the final decision between the two players, with Partey chosen as their preferred target.

Simeone not bothered by Partey exit

Diego Simeone says he is not concerned with the manner in which Partey left Atletico Madrid.

The Ghanaian midfielder was the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer linking him with a move to Arsenal.

The two sides failed to negotiate a deal, and Arsenal then triggered his release clause with hours of the window remaining.

It had previously been claimed Simeone was furious with the way in which Partey left the club, but the Argentine has now revealed he holds no grudges.

“Everything that happens to the boys who gave me a lot of things at the club makes me happy,” Simeone said, via Goal. “Thomas is a boy I remember from when he played in the B team with Saul [Niguez].
