Thomas Partey’s father has revealed that the new Arsenal signing needed a little bit of convincing to join the north London club after they failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League.
The Ghanaian completed a deadline day move to the Emirates after Arsenal made a late decision to activate the release clause in his old contract with Atletico Madrid, depositing £45million in full.
Partey had always been Mikel Arteta’s top target over the summer, while the midfielder was keen to test himself in the Premier League, though the prospect of playing in the Europa League next season could have derailed the deal.

According to the 27-year-old’s dad, Partey was apprehensive about dropping out of the Champions League but was persuaded by his father to take on the task of returning Arsenal to Europe’s elite competition.
