Arsenal left Chelsea and Juventus disappointed with transfer deadline day deal

Thomas Partey’s father has revealed Chelsea and Juventus hoped to sign his son before Arsenal completed a transfer deadline day deal for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.

The Gunners activated the £45 million release clause in Thomas’ contract with the Spanish club with just hours of the transfer window remaining, with the player completing a medical in Madrid before putting pen to paper.

Speaking to Joy News Online , Thomas’ father Jacob said: “We actually weren’t disturbed by anything because we hoped a bigger team will come for Partey.

“We were aware of the [other teams that were interested: Juventus, Chelsea and so forth. So about all these we knew God was with us. From that minute we started to dance to ‘Party after Party’.”

Performances of Arsenal players out on loan assessed over international break

It might be the international break, with a number of Arsenal players on duty with their national teams, but that doesn’t mean the club didn’t have players out on loan playing club football over the weekend.

Zech Medley featured for Gillingham in their 3-1 home win over Oxford United, while Trae Coyle was left on the bench for the Gills having failed to start any of their last five matches.

Zak Swanson was also selected on the bench for MVV Maastricht for a match against Go Ahead Eagles, with the Dutch club keen to ease him gently back into action after a spell out through injury.
