18 top agents vote on worst transfer of the summer – with Man Utd deals criticised

A number of top agents believe Manchester United’s signing of Edinson Cavani was the worst of the transfer window, while the arrival of Donny van de Beek did not rate highly either.

United were scrambling around on Deadline Day as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to strengthen his squad following a desperate summer.

Cavani was one of four to arrive at Old Trafford while Van de Beek had been the only signing made before Deadline Day.

Manchester City were also busy in the summer with Pep Guardiola eager to strengthen his defence.

The Spaniard poached for Nathan Ake, who couldn’t prevent Bournemouth’s relegation last season, but that deal has not been looked on favourably.

The Athletic asked 18 agents what the worst transfer of the summer was with United’s business the standout.

Cavani’s arrival was voted the worst by 28 per cent of the agents polled, while Van de Beek was second with 11 per cent.

Another of United’s Deadline Day deals in Amad Diallo, who will arrive at Old Trafford in January from Atalanta, was joint third with six per cent.

And the same amount picked Ake’s move to the Etihad as well as Kai Havertz’s transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Chelsea.
