Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has laid into Mesut Ozil for “using” club mascot Gunnersaurus as a “PR stunt”.
The German made the gesture on transfer deadline day after the man inside the costume, Jerry Quy, was let go.
He wrote on Instagram: “I was so sad that Jerry Quy aka our famous & loyal mascot Gunnersaurus and integral part of our club was being made redundant after 27 years.
“As such, I’m offering to reimburse Arsenal with the full salary of our big green guy as long as I will be an Arsenal player so Jerry can continue his job that he loves so much.”

Ozil is having issues keeping his own job, though, after the man who has not played since lockdown was left out of the Gunners’ Europa League squad.
And Parlour, who won three Premier League titles in north London, was not impressed with his gesture.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the Gunners legend said: “It is [a PR stunt], yeah.
“I wish Gunnersaurus was on £300,000-a-week because they’d get their money’s worth.

“It’s nothing he’s done to me, but I reckon it’s a very good PR stunt.
“Don’t you think, Al? Behind the scenes, to get the fans back on his side, let’s do that.”
And Parlour is not the only one who feels this way as Simon Jordan also laid into the German for his gesture.
“Kindness is a good thing when you do it in a self-effacing way,” the former Crystal Palace owner said earlier this week.
But Parlour believes it was meant by the midfielder, who was left out of the Europa League squad, to ‘get fans on his side’
