Thomas Partey’s strength identified by ex-Chelsea boss after Arsenal transfer

Arsenal new boy Thomas Partey’s key strength for the Gunners has been identified by ex-Chelsea boss Avram Grant.

The north London side got their midfielder on transfer deadline day, activating his £45m release clause after weeks of uncertainty.

With nearly 200 appearances for Atletico Madrid that include Champions League experience, Mikel Arteta has brought in a man who has experience of big games.

But Grant, who managed Chelsea in the 2007/08 season before working with Partey in the Ghana national team between 2014 and 2017, has revealed the one quality he will add to the Gunners’ side from midfield.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the former Blues boss said: “He’s a very good player who can bring balance.

“He can control the ball and will not give it away.

“He has a high percentage of good passes on the pitch and is also very strong, winning the ball from other teams.

“He will not score a lot of goals. He will score some and bring some assists to the team.

“But his strength is to give balance, which is very important today in football.

“When you have a good attack but no defence, you will not win anything. Arsenal’s defence is more solid now, so he can bring the balance to the team.”

Partey will be stepping into a side that have won five of their first six games in all competitions, putting them fourth in the Premier League table.

It comes as the Ghanaian used Instagram to send a message to fans of his former side after his departure was confirmed.
