Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has pulled out of Gabon’s friendly against Benin due to an ankle injury.
The striker was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Sander Berge during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Sheffield United last Sunday.
Aubameyang hobbled away from the tackle but managed to complete the match as goals from Bukayo Saka and Nicolas Pepe sealed the win for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Aubameyang had been called up for Gabon’s national side ahead of their match against Benin on Sunday.
But the 31-year-old has withdrawn from the squad and will not take part in the game.
‘Aubameyang suffers from a small sprained ankle, contracted on Sunday, during the Premier League match against Sheffield United,’ said Gabon coach Patrice Neveu.
