Arsenal were left frustrated after Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen reportedly ‘cancelled’ Sead Kolasinac’s deadline day transfer to the club.
The Gunners star looked set to leave the Emirates with Leverkusen having been heavily linked with a move for the left-back.
But the Bosnian remained an Arsenal player after Monday’s 11pm deadline with the German side not wanting to add to their list of defensive players.
Kicker claim that Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz had wanted another left-back in his squad and hoped that Kolasinac would arrive.
However the deal was reportedly cancelled as Kolasinac would have been the 11th defensive player in the Leverkusen squad and the Bundesliga outfit’s chiefs did not want that.
Sead Kolasinac stayed at Arsenal during the summer transfer window
It would have been a huge gain for Arsenal had Kolasinac departed given the wage packed he is on in north London.
But he has remained and has been included in Arsenal’s 25-man squad for the upcoming Europa League group stages.
And Arsenal technical director Edu is pleased with the balance Mikel Arteta has in his squad.
He said: “I think we improved the squad’s quality and physicality.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta was a busy man during the transfer window
“Thomas [Partey], who we had in our plan for the future, when me and Mikel sit and talked, I think you get all the players who we really focused on.
“If you see Willian, he brings us experience and a very special physicality in terms of speed. If you see Gabriel, he gives us a lot of physicality and presence. Dani [Ceballos], quality. Thomas, physicality, quality and mentally he is very strong.
