Thomas Partey’s deadline day switch from Atletico Madrid to Arsenal was the biggest of the final day of the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta had pinpointed the Ghana international as one of his top midfield targets as he looked to improve his options at the Emirates.
The Gunners had been linked with Partey for much of the window, with the La Liga giants adamant they weren’t willing to sell.
However, with just hours left of the window, Arsenal made their move, triggering the £45million release clause in his contract.

Atleti had tried several times to offer Partey a new deal, but Partey refused to agree to new terms, despite reportedly being the lowest paid player in Diego Simeone’s line-up.
Arsenal’s bid went direct to the La Liga offices as negotiations with club officials weren’t required. That has left his old club furious, amid claims that the relationship between the club is irreparable.
Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague however has suggested that Atleti bosses are more annoyed with the player himself as he arranged a medical without informing them directly.
Partey made the move to Arsenal after nine years in the Spanish capital
They believe, after nine years in Madrid, he should have given teammates, coaches and staff a proper send off before departing for London.
Partey has broken his silence on the move, claiming he will always be a part of the Atleti family.
“Dear Atletico fans, today I only have words of gratitude with you,” he posted on his social media.
“For several years now, Atlético de Madrid has been my home and a part of this family will always be with me.
“I want to thank the club for the trust placed in me from day one, but above all, I want to thank you.
