Some interesting departures were also made, with Matteo Guendouzi leaving on loan for Hertha Berlin, Lucas Torreira agreeing a short-term move to Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, Emi Martinez left on a permanent transfer to Aston Villa, with the Gunners picking up around £20million for the Argentinian keeper.

All of that has left Mikel Arteta in a good place to build his squad over the next few years – though there are a number of players whose futures will have to be decided on before the end of the season.
