Eddie Nketiah scored the 13th goal of his England Under-21 career during Wednesday’s 3-3 draw against Andorra, in the process equalling a record held by Alan Shearer and Francis Jeffers.
The 21-year-old appeared to have scored the goal which booked a place for Aidy Boothroyd’s side in next summer’s European Championships with a late strike, but the young Lions were robbed of maximum points when Christian Garcia pounced in injury time.
Boothroyd’s side are next in action against Turkey on this coming Tuesday and will no doubt look to Nketiah, who has now scored nine times in his last five appearances for the Under-21s, to continue his fine run of form at this level.
The Arsenal academy graduate spent part of last season on loan at Leeds but was recalled by the Gunners after he was afforded a lack of playing time by Marcelo Bielsa.
Nketiah has subsequently established himself as a firm favourite of Mikel Arteta’s and usurped Alexandre Lacazette in the Spaniard’s pecking order towards the end of the last campaign.
