Arsenal’s deadline day capture of Thomas Partey caused quite a stir on social media.
The Ghana midfielder completed his move to the Emirates after Arsenal agreed to pay his full £45.3million release clause early on Monday.
A medical was completed in Madrid before Partey flew to London to finalise the deal and put pen-to-paper on a four-year contract.
Partey’s arrival ends Mikel Arteta’s search for a dynamic central midfielder, with the Gunners boss desperate to stiffen the spine of his side before the window closed.

Lyon’s Houssem Aouar was also the subject of a bid, but a failure to agree a fee meant the Gunners had to focus their efforts on landing Partey before the deadline.
The 27-year-old has established himself as one of Europe’s finest holding players in recent seasons, playing a key role for Diego Simeone’s side as they finished third in La Liga last season.
With his arrival in north London rubber stamped, some rival supporters took the chance to comment on the deal, pointing out that Arsenal may finally have a central midfield to mount a top four challenge.
Partey joins Granit Xhaka and Dani Ceballos, who struck up an effective partnership towards the end of last season, whilst Mohamed Elneny and Joe Willock provide adequate cover.
One Manchester United fan tweeted: “Arsenal have signed three players who would start for us.
“We’ve signed players wouldn’t start for them. Now tell me we aren’t in trouble this season.”
Another wrote: “Willian, Partey, Gabriel. We’d have improved so much with these signings.”
