Good morning and welcome to football.london’s live coverage of Mikel Arteta’s pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Sheffield United.
The Gunnners will head into Sunday’s [October 4] match with a much-needed confidence boost after beating Liverpool on penalties to progress in the Carabao Cup.
Arsenal’s start to the 2020/21 Premier League campaign has been respectable as wins over Fulham and West Ham made their 3-1 loss to Liverpool on Monday less painful. With games against Manchester City, Leicester City and Manchester United after the international break, however, maintaining their winning run will be crucial this weekend.
While the meeting with the Blades will be discussed, with just three days left before deadline day [October 5], Arteta is highly likely to be quizzed on Arsenal’s transfer business, both incoming and outgoing.
Lyon’s Houssem Aouar remains the top priority for Arsenal and despite recent links to Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, the Gunners will hope their long-standing interest in the midfielder will pay dividends. Interest also remains in Thomas Partey but it is expected that Aouar is the more likely deal to happen.
What could grease the wheels for both to get over the line, however, is outgoing business. Lucas Torreira is reportedly edging closer to a loan move to Atletico Madrid, Sead Kolasinac has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis with moves to Serie A and most recently, William Saliba has been linked with a loan move to Rennes.
