Atletico Madrid will reportedly have the option to sign Lucas Torreira permanently though are expected to initially take the Arsenal star on loan.
Midfielder Torreira has been linked with a move away from the Emirates all summer and a deal is expected to be confirmed before Monday’s transfer deadline.
Torino have also been linked with interest in the Uruguayan, who joined Arsenal from Sampdoria in the summer of 2018.
The Athletic claim that the parties involved in a deal between Atletico and the Gunners are close to an agreement, though no medical has yet been arranged.
It’s reported that he will head to the Spanish capital on loan with the club granted an option to sign him permanently.

Thomas Partey, who Arsenal have been consistently linked with, is not believed to be involved in the deal.
The Gunners wanted a fee for Torreira this summer but Atletico are reportedly not in a position to do so as they have payments on their Wanda Metropolitano stadium.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has regularly remained tight-lipped on transfer dealings at the Emirates.
He said last week: “I think every case you take it individually. First of all try to understand if they want to leave, why.

“At the moment I’m not expecting anyone to leave shortly.
“We are trying all the time to adjust the squad in the most efficient way.
“It is clear at the moment that it has to go both ways and in order to achieve that we still have some time but we are pretty clear in what we are trying to do.
“Again, with all the players that we have here, we’re going to try to get the best out of them.
