Fresh Houssem Aouar bid prepared

Arsenal are preparing a fresh bid for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar after seeing an initial offer rejected by the Ligue 1 side, Football.London understands.

Lyon Jean-Michel Aulas indicated earlier today that an initial offer of £32million (€35million) had been rejected but Arsenal will not be deterred and the Gunners are ready to increase their offer to £36.5million (€40million) with a further £9million in potential add-ons (€10million).

It was initially reported that Lyon were demanding £55m for his services but that asking price has since reduced, although it’s reported in France that the new bid will be swiftly rejected as they’re holding out for €50m.

Xhaka issues transfer verdict

Granit Xhaka has praised the signings of Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes, stating the Brazilians have brought ‘quality and mentality’ to the Gunners.

Those two signings, along with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s new three-year contract, has provided a boost to the squad – and Xhaka has been impressed with the business.

“With Willian and Gabriel, Arsenal brought a lot of quality and mentality into the dressing room,” Xhaka told the Swiss Telegraphic Agency. “Willian knows how to win titles.

“And the extension with Aubameyang was an important signal for all of us – we want to go back to the Champions League.”
