Lyon ‘to soften Houssem Aouar stance’ and should accept if Arsenal raise offer

Lyon are set to soften their stance on Houssem Aouar and will accept an improved bid from Arsenal, according to reports from France.

Mikel Arteta has targeted Aouar to improve the Gunners’ midfield, and the attacker midfielder is believed to have agreed personal terms.

It has been reported that Lyon want £54million for the 22-year-old, who starred in the Ligue 1 side’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season.

Arsenal have only nine days left to complete a deal before the transfer window shuts, and have offered an initial £32m, as reported by RMC Sport.

That is significantly less than Lyon’s price tag – but there is hope on the horizon.

The French side would be prepared to accept an improved bid from the Gunners of €50m (£45m) plus bonuses, according to Get French Football News.

Arsenal are also targeting Atletico Madrid ace Thomas Partey – and Gunners legend Nigel Winterburn has given his verdict on which of the two midfielders he would prioritise.

“Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar are the right sort of names to be linked with Arsenal,” Winterburn told FreeSuperTips .

“Arsenal’s big issue is that they’ve got so many midfield players, they probably need to offload some before they can bring more in.
