Edu’s Houssem Aouar plans boosted by Jean-Michel Aulas transfer stance Arsenal know well

Arsenal are working hard to bring more players to the Emirates Stadium ahead of the end of the transfer window.

The Gunners have added three new faced to their squad, with Gabriel Magalhaes, Willian and Alex Runarsson all arriving at the club.

Pablo Mari, Cedric Soares and Dani Ceballos have all also extended their stay at Arsenal after loan deals last season.

One player who Mikel Arteta is keen to bring to the club is Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

Reports on Friday night suggested that the Gunners had put a bid in for the 22-year-old, with Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas confirming the offer.

However, he also confirmed that the bid was short of the club’s valuation.

“For Houssem Arsenal is too far from his value: we are counting on him to play a great match in Lorient and lead OL in CL next year,” he posted on Twitter.

But this is not the first time that Arsenal have dealt with the French club in the transfer market.

Striker Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon in 2017, but that wasn’t before a transfer saga, with Arsenal seeing bids turned down 12 months before.

However, it was comments by the Lyon president in 2017 that may cause optimism for Arsenal fans.

Just days before Lacazette completed his move to Arsenal, Aulas played down the chances of a transfer happening

“I do not think that Alexandre Lacazette will leave this summer,” he told French outlet Canal+

In a separate interview, as reported by Eurosport, the president had a similar stance.

“Lacazette was told he could leave – we now have a very nice offer from Arsenal. But for us he will not leave,” he said.
