Ian Wright says Donny van de Beek should have joined Arsenal over Man Utd

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has questioned Manchester United’s decision to sign Donny van de Beek and feels he would have been better suited to a club such as the Gunners.

United have endured a difficult transfer window, failing to land top target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, with their only new arrival coming in the form of £35million recruit Van de Beek from Ajax.

The move did draw some puzzled looks, however, with the versatile Dutchman preferring to play an attacking, box-to-box role in midfield – taking up positions already occupied by Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

Wright feels United have much more pressing needs to strengthen other areas of the team and is worried Van de Beek does not quite fit into the starting XI, instead believing he would have been perfect elsewhere.

‘Donny van de Beek, he’s someone that I wish someone more like Arsenal could have taken,’ said the former Gunners striker on The Kelly & Wrighty Show.
