New Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes is becoming a cult hero with Gunners fans, and his efforts in the win over West Ham won over even more supporters.
Brazilian defender Gabriel got off to a brilliant start in Arsenal’s first game of the season by scoring, much to the delight of the Gunners faithful.
He followed that up with a solid display at West Ham, and even made a last gasp block to deny a certain goal in east London.
Supporters heaped praise on the £27m man on social media, heralding him as Arsenal’s saviour at the back after years of uncertainty in defence.
Arsenal Fan TV wrote on Twitter: “Another Man of the Match performance by our new centre back.”
Gabriel Magalhaes pulled off a hugely important block to prevent Michail Antonio scoring for West Ham
Meanwhile, several fans echoed that opinion, citing his goal saving block as a pivotal moment in the game.
One put: “This match saving block from Gabriel on Antonio after Leno dropped the ball.”
“That block by Gabriel on Antonio when Leno fumbled that ball going over Ceballos is not talked about too much. It was a match winning block,” a second added.
As a third tweeted: “Gabriel Magalhaes; 2 games, 2 man of the match performances & we’re only just getting started.”

“Remember when arteta said it’s important to have a player that guide the defense line like VVD Well he is here,” claimed a fourth.
And a fifth pointed out: “Gabriel will be so much better too with some decent defenders around him, Holding really isn’t that good we only rate him because of that FA Cup Final years ago, Kolasinac need I say more…”
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admitted that his side were well off the pace against West Ham, but marked it down as a learning curve for the rest of the season.
