Arsenal player ratings vs Fulham: Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes excel for Mikel Arteta on debut

Bernd Leno: His early mishap with Gabriel Magalhaes was understandable considering the pair have never played together and the Brazilian doesn’t speak the language yet. In spite of this, Leno responded well and was sound behind the backline from then on. 6

Rob Holding: PLayed as the right-sided centre-back, Rob Holding had a solid start. Tasked to engage more often with the Fulham attackers, he was always ready to step in. Whether it was a regular tackle or a pass into a team-mate, he was ready for the challenge. Played a risky pass toward the end of the first half which put the Gunners under unnecessary pressure. Began the second half with an amazing run into the Fulham half – keeping the ball off the ground – before playing Lacazette in to win the corner for Gabriel’s debut goal. A statement following all the speculation over his future. 8

Gabriel Magalhaes: The Brazilian had a shaky start with a miscommunication with Leno almost resulting in an early Fulham goal. Did well when put in a one on one situation on his weaker foot, timing his challenge on Ivan Cavaleiro to perfection, using his strength to keep the ball and then calmly setting it to Hector Bellerin. Didn’t seem up to speed in regards to build-up play which is understandable. Rose confidently to deal with the pressure put on the side late in the first half. His aerial prowess was on display again shortly after as he buried a header home to make it 2-0. A very strong display after the initial mishap. 8

Kieran Tierney: The Scot had a few shaky moments on the ball but these moments weren’t in high pressure situations. The Scot was composed in defence. Grew as the game went on but wasn’t a standout performer on the day. 6
