Arsenal evening headlines as Barcelona step up Bellerin transfer chase and Lacazette sets record

Here are the Arsenal evening headlines on Saturday, September 12.

Barcelona planning loan move for Bellerin

Barcelona hope to sign Hector Bellerin on loan before the close of the transfer window, according to Marca .

The Catalan club have reportedly met with Arsenal to discuss a potential deal for the 25-year-old, who has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

If the Gunners are unwilling to loan Bellerin to his former club, Barcelona plan to return with a player-plus-cash offer.

The expectation is that the Spaniard will cost between £18m and £23m, but that could prove too expensive for Barcelona after the financial impact of coronavirus.

That is why the Blaugrana intend to bring Bellerin on loan, with a view to securing their ex-academy prospect as a long-term replacement for Nelson Semedo.

The Frenchman was on hand to turn home from close range with just eight minutes played after Willian’s effort was parried by goalkeeper Marek Rodak.

In doing so, Lacazette became the first player in Premier League history to score on the opening day of the season in two separate campaigns.

The 29-year-old opened his club’s account back in 2017-18, when he headed home the first goal in a 4-3 win over Leicester.

And he made a similarly positive start this season, linking up promisingly with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and new signing Willian at Craven Cottage.
