Mikel Arteta delivers response over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future to delight Arsenal fans

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract situation at Arsenal has been an ongoing concern for Gunners fans for some time now.

But Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says he is “really optimistic” that the club and the player will soon come to an agreement to extend his stay in north London.

Aubameyang’s future has been the subject of speculation for some time, with Manchester United among the clubs previously linked with the Gabon international, who has just one year left on his current deal with the Gunners.

However, as reported by football.london, it is understood that Aubameyang has agreed to extend his stay with the club and that the Gunners are edging closer to official confirmation of a three-year extension, as per reports from The Athletic, which will serve as a major boost to Mikel Arteta and the squad as a whole.

And Arteta has given an update on Aubameyang’s future that suggests Arsenal fans have little to worry about over the club’s captain and top scorer.

“I can say I’m even more confident that at the end of last season. I’m really optimistic,” he said, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the opening Premier League game against Fulham tomorrow.

“I think they [Arsenal fans] can be pretty relaxed.”
