Thomas Partey praise proves why Mikel Arteta wants Atletico star to join Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to land Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey this summer – and Gunners hero Lauren knows exactly why.

Partey is not pushing for a Wanda Metropolitano exit at present – but his future at Atleti is up in the air as Diego Simeone debates a sale this summer.

Lauren has heaped praise on the 27-year-old, explaining why the Gunners should land him before the October 5th deadline.

“He’s a top player. He’s been improving under [Diego] Simeone,” the former Arsenal man told Goal.

“We’ve seen this guy since his early days with Mallorca, so he stepped up to a bigger club with Atletico Madrid and kept performing well, improving year after year.

“Before he was used as a holding midfielder.

“Now he can pass the ball, play with the striker, have shots from outside the box and even score important goals, as we saw last year in the Champions League.

“If Arsenal decide to sign him, I think it will be a fantastic addition in the middle of the park.”

Lauren’s comments are exactly why Arteta is so keen to land the Ghanian international.

Partey is well-equipped to play in the holding role in midfield.

But he has also adapted his game to play further up the pitch, joining in with the attack on a regular basis.

Partey’s passing range has expanded under Simeone – and after coming through the academy at the Spanish outfit, he could bring in a hefty fee this summer.

Arteta is set to lose versatile midfield man Matteo Guendouzi, while Lucas Torreira’s future is up in the air at present.
