Ozil hasn’t featured for the Gunners since their defeat at home to Olympiacos in the Europa league in February and didn’t play a single minute after the season restarted in June.
Arsenal have been keen to offload Ozil this summer but the midfielder’s £350,000-a-week salary has proved too problematic.
Arteta is now resigned to keeping Ozil until his contract expires next summer, although how heavily the 31-year-old features in the Spaniard’s plans remains to be seen.

‘Unfortunately it’s not in my hands to decide about the squad on the weekend. We will see.’
Meanwhile, Arteta is facing a defensive dilemma…
