Arsenal receive verdict on Houssem Aouar transfer plan involving Matteo Guendouzi

Lyon sporting director Juninho has spoken out about a possible deal which would see Arsenal make a swap deal involving Matteo Guendouzi and Houssem Aouar with the Ligue 1 side.

Arsenal are understood to be looking to offload French midfielder Guendouzi this summer after a bust up with Mikel Arteta.

The 21-year-old has been frozen out at The Emirates since making a scene at Brighton in June after the controversial injury to Bernd Leno.

The Gunners are yet to find a new club for Guendouzi, but appear to have found a way to wangle him in to discussions about Aouar, who Arsenal are keen on.

However, Groupama Stadium bigwig Juninho has shot down any suggestions of a swap deal, even involving cash, that would involve Guendouzi as he is not the right fit for the club.

“I get on very well with Edu [Arsenal technical director], we spoke on the phone. Aouar is really appreciated by Mikel Arteta,” Juninho told RMC Sport.

“Guendouzi was discussed during the call, he is a great player, but he is the wrong profile. We are not interested in that at all, we cut the conversation.”

Aouar has seen his stock rise heavily after performing well in France, and Juninho admitted that there was interest not only from Arsenal, but also Manchester City.

But the Brazilian director confirmed there had been no offers of interest for the 22-year-old.

“I think that has been happening directly with agents. We were not directly contacted. Maybe Vincent Ponsot (director general) was contacted by Manchester City, I am not sure.
