Arsenal first half player ratings vs Liverpool: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Rob Holding star

Emi Martinez: A sound return to action for the Argentine as he was calm in his role as the man to start Arsenal attacks. Didn’t have much to do in the traditional goalkeeping sense. 6

Rob Holding: Kept up with Sadio Mane well early on to ensure He couldn’t get in behind even if it meant he was dragged out of position. Was calm in possession which had a direct benefit to the build-up for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goal. Chased lost causes to ensure Arsenal didn’t concede corners too. Continued to rise to the occasion as whenever Liverpool whipped crosses into the box, he was ready to head them away. 7

David Luiz: Looked a tad rusty in the early stages of the game. A foul on the edge of the box was silly to give away and he struggled to keep the ball. Did better as the half went on as his job was to simply defend the box, but still gave the ball away. 5

Kieran Tierney: A stout defensive performance in which he was always alert to the danger and ready to attack the ball. Had a few occasions when he misread Aubameyang’s runs. Remained solid throughout the half. 6

Hector Bellerin: Looked comfortable at right wing-back and played a lovely clipped ball over to Bukayo Saka in the build up to Aubameyang’s opener. In defence he kept his concentration and was able to intervene when Liverpool attacked down his side. 7

Mohamed Elneny: Had a few moments when he misread situations but grew into the game well. Dropped into the right spaces when Arsenal looked to build from the back which was evident with the opening goal. Closed down well on the edge of the box to block a half-open Milner shot. Was very tidy throughout. 6
