Arsenal ‘could finalise exit deal’ with Newcastle after Community Shield clash

Arsenal defender Rob Holding is set to join Newcastle on loan until the end of the season.

Mikel Arteta is plotting a defensive shakeup at the Emirates this summer, with a £27million deal for Lille centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

William Saliba has also returned from his loan spell at St-Etienne, while Pablo Mari has joined the club on a permanent basis following his loan in the second half of last season.

As a result, Holding has been deemed surplus to requirements at the Emirates this term, meaning he is poised to seal a season-long loan move to Newcastle.

Shkodran Mustafi, Mari and Calum Chambers are all out injured four the Gunners, while Sokratis is currently in quarantine.
