Houssem Aouar to Arsenal: Gunners to make a move, Lyon’s asking price, transfer competition

The summer transfer window is in full swing, and Arsenal are among the clubs looking to continue to strengthen within the next few weeks.

The Gunners have already added former Chelsea winger Willian to their squad after the expiry of his contract at Stamford Bridge, and are on the verge of making their second signing of the summer in the shape of Gabriel Magalhaes.

But Mikel Arteta will still be wanting more new faces ahead of the transfer window closing in October. One of the names to be linked is Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

The 22-year-old impressed for Lyon in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League in the 2019/20 campaign and has caught the eye of many clubs around Europe, including Arsenal.

Arsenal ‘bid’

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Arsenal made an offer of cash plus Matteo Guendouzi for the 22-year-old midfielder last week.

The report claims Arteta is believed to be a big admirer of the player’s talents, and it was director Edu who made the offer verbally over the telephone.

It is also claimed that Lyon rejected the offer as they only want cash for the player and do not feel that they need to add an additional midfielder.

Lyon update

Lyon sporting director Juninho confirmed after the club’s Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich that there will be departures this summer.
