Arsenal can fund deal for Mikel Arteta’s dream signing by granting Lucas Torreira his wish

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is reportedly attracting interest from Italy.

According to La Sampa – via ViolaNews – Serie A pair Fiorentina and Torino are set to go head-to-head for the signature of the Uruguay international who has slipped down the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium under Mikel Arteta.

In addition, the report states that Fiorentina are planning to offer an €8.5m (£7.5m) loan fee which would include an €18m (£16m) obligation to buy at the end of the season.

It remains to be seen if the Gunners would be tempted by this reported offer, but Torreira has recently hinted at leaving the club this summer.

“Today I need to think about my future very well,” he told Sport890 at the beginning of the month.

“I have a contract with the club and I have to respect it, obviously if I have to leave it will be for the best.

“We have to be calm and wait.”

Furthermore, Torreira’s agent, Pablo Bentancur, has gone on record stating the midfielder wishes to return to Italy.

“Lucas had been in a bit of a bad mood over some technical differences, then he recovered,” he told TMW in May. “And the injury arrived, fortunately less serious than expected. Today he is completely recovered, I believe he will be a market man.

“I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great.”

Should the Gunners grant Torreira’s wish and accept Fiorentina’s planned proposal, it would generate funds for other transfers.

Thomas Partey, Houssem Aouar and Philippe Coutinho are a trio of midfielders being linked with moves to north London before the window closes.
