Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta and the club’s hierarchy are reportedly “in love” with Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar, who could be available for £54million this summer.
Aouar, 22, enjoyed a superb season at the heart of Lyon’s midfield, inspiring Rudi Garcia’s men to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
He was one of the French outfit’s star performers in their last-16 and quarter-final victories over Juventus and Manchester City, before suffering a 3-0 defeat against eventual champions Bayern Munich in the last four.
It is believed Arsenal have now identified the France Under-21 star as a top transfer target, having failed to reach an agreement with Atletico Madrid for £45million-rated Thomas Partey.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, however, the Gunners will have to fork out between £54million and £63million to sign Aouar in the summer transfer window.
“I think it’s difficult about Aouar, because we were speaking about €50million [£45million] for Thomas Partey,” Romano told Lee Gunner in an interview on YouTube.
“If we speak about Aouar we are speaking about €60million [£54million] or €70million [£63million], so it will be so difficult to take Aouar.
Mikel Arteta and Gunners chiefs are “in love” with the 22-year-old, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano
“For sure what I can guarantee is that the Arsenal board is in love with Aouar, Mikel Arteta is also in love with Aouar.
“For sure they will try but many other clubs have tried, there are rumours here in Italy with Juventus.
“The same that Juventus say ‘we like the player but it will be difficult to pay €60million or €70million this summer’.
But to prise him away from Lyon, they will have to fork out between £54million and £63million
