Matt Doherty’s love for Arsenal emerges as Tottenham ‘agree’ Wolves transfer

Matt Doherty’s love for Arsenal has emerged from eight-year-old Tweets – just as the Wolves defender appears to have ‘agreed’ a move to rivals Tottenham.

Jose Mourinho’s side have reportedly come to an agreement as the manager looks to bolster his defence for the new campaign.

It’s believed that Spurs will pay Wolves an initial £12m rising to a potential £16m with add-ons.

But he may have some difficult questions to answer to the Spurs faithful when they see his Twitter activity from the start of the decade.

Writing on the social media on September 7 2013, he simply said: “Yes I’m a HUGE Arsenal fan!”

And his passion for the Gunners had already been put on display a year before, commenting on the club’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

“Man I love Arsenal and btw [Karl] Jenkinson is quick but Gervinho could of won it for us at the end but take the point tho [sic],” Doherty wrote on Twitter.

The defender expressed his Arsenal support while at Molineux, on the books with Wolves since 2010.

Having made more than 300 appearances in orange, Nuno Espirito Santo looks to be moving the 28-year-old on as he pursues Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Spurs’ move for Doherty comes after Mourinho previously warned the club were unlikely to make big-money signings this summer.

He had said: “I knew what Tottenham is before I signed my contract. I had meetings with different people in the club. I think at that time we were 10-15 points behind the Champions League positions, so there are no surprises for me.
